Outlook 2010: A One-Hour “First Contact”: “In anticipation of the upcoming release of Microsoft Office 2010, as a Microsoft MVP I recently got the opportunity to take a trial run of the new version of Office. The upgrade went fine on top of Windows 7 Ultimate. But the first stop in the application suite was going to be the place where we all spend a great deal of time: Outlook. From NetworkWorld.com…

A Guide to Windows 7 Networking – Network World: “Whether at home or at the office, networking has gone mainstream. Once upon a time, a computer had value as a stand-alone machine running applications, but that time has passed. Without an ability to access the Internet, retrieve e-mail, chat via instant messaging, and connect with file shares and software, the computer is little more than an expensive paperweight.

Clearly, the trend is toward remote and mobile computing, and it’s important for an operating system to provide the tools necessary to remain connected and productive from anywhere. Microsoft is incorporating a variety of new networking features in Windows 7 that simplify connectivity and help users access network resources no matter where they are connecting from. Here we’ll take a closer look at some of the innovative networking features to be found in Windows 7 (we may get a little bit technical at times).”

From PCMag.com…

Microsoft: Office 2010 Public Beta Due in November – Reviews by PC Magazine: “Microsoft said Monday that the public beta of Microsoft Office 2010 will go live in November, as well as a public beta of SharePoint Server 2010.

PCMag.com has already written that Office 2010 looks to be the smoothest upgrade for the Office productivity suite ever; our hands-on of the technical preview of Office 2010 was quite favorable. Office will also come in the form of ad-supported Web apps; last month, Microsoft invited PCMag.com to take an early look.”

From the Word Team Blog…

The Microsoft Office Word Team’s Blog : Co-authoring (i.e. Simultaneous Editing) in Word 2010: “Co-authoring (i.e. Simultaneous Editing) in Word 2010

When we first started blogging about Word 2007, we talked a lot about 21st Century Documents. Our vision was that Word 2007 would allow authors to easily create much richer documents (Quick Styles, Themes, SmartArt, Picture Styles, Building Blocks, etc.). In Word 2010, our cutting-edge authoring pillar builds on the 21st Century Documents vision in that 21st Century Documents often have multiple authors. To accommodate this, we’re working to make co-authoring as natural as solo-authoring. Here’s how…”
