An interesting list of tools to support Macs in the enterprise environment.  Number 1 and 12 also support iOS devices.

By Ryan Faas at Infoworld.com…

The knock on managing Macs in business environments has long been Apple’s ambivalent attitude toward providing significant enterprise support. Apple does, of course, offer tools for deploying, configuring, and managing Macs. But to move Macs beyond a departmental setting, IT will often find it necessary to look to third parties for help.

I’m fascinated the last few years with Mindjet and how people are using it and other mind-mapping software.

By Jessica Stillman at GIGaom.com…

A year ago at Net: Work the audience crowned social task management product Cohuman with the people’s choice award (here’s a screencast explaining how it works). The company was also a Net:Work Future Ideas Launchpad finalist.

So what’s happened to the company since it made a big splash at last year’s conference? (This year’s Net:Work conference in San Francisco is just a few weeks away on December 8th.) In short, they’ve become a piece of a larger puzzle, being acquired by Mindjet to help create a broader solution that takes ideas all the way from inception to execution.

Today is “Alternatives to Microsoft Outlook Day”.  This and my previous post are articles purporting to have “top” and “great” alternatives to Outlook.

By Sanix at MakeTechEasier.com…

In term of email client, Microsoft Outlook is the most popular one around. It is widely used in both home and office because of its deep integration with Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft Windows and of course, Microsoft Exchange. However, being popular doesn’t mean it is the best. There are several alternative email clients that have the same, or even better, functionality than Outlook. Let’s take a look.

Today is “Alternatives to Microsoft Outlook Day”.  This and my next post are articles purporting to have “top” and “great” alternatives to Outlook.

By Jack Wallen at TechRepublic.com…

Outlook is, hands-down, the most popular email client among the business set. And with good reason. It connects to Exchange, which allows businesses to determine many aspects of how and what their users can manage, use, and control. It also allows the sharing of things like calendars and contacts. But not all businesses (especially small businesses) employ Exchange. For them, there are plenty of alternatives to Outlook. Even businesses that do have Exchange may use an alternative to connect to a groupware server. Let’s take a look at a few of these alternatives and see what they have to offer.

I’m surprised WinZip didn’t make the list.  It’s what I use and recommend but some of these in the article may be worth a try.

Okay, a bit of self-indulging since Google Reader is one of my most oft-used web apps. You can subscribe to this blog using Google Reader by clicking here.  Heh heh.

From Lifehacker.com…

Google Reader’s latest changes have sparked a lot of debate and discussion, and it got us wondering if you were planning on sticking with it through the design and sharing changes, or if you’re planning to jump ship to another RSS Newsreader. Last week we asked you which newsreader you used, even in light of the changes, and then we took a look at the top five based on your nominations. Now we’re back to highlight the winner.

And this goes hand in hand with my post of a few minutes ago.  From NetworkWorld.com…

The battle between Microsoft and Google for office cloud dominance reminds me of the clash of the Titans. Microsoft and its classic on-premises business model is like Gaia, the earth goddess, and Google with its disruptive lightening bolt, is like Zeus, a sky god and a next generation kind of god.

By Adrian Klaver at LinuxJournal.com…

jEdit is a cross-platform text editor written in Java. The current stable version at time of this writing is 4.3.2, and it’s available at http://jedit.org. Besides the cross-platform capabilities, jEdit offers other features, such as a sophisticated plugin system, syntax highlighting for 130 languages, a built-in macro language and extensive encoding support. I wrote this article using jEdit, and I demonstrate some of its features here, especially some of the plugins I have found useful.
