A useful overview of mind mapping and a couple of product recommendations.  From Bakari Chavanu at MakeUseOf.com…

Mind mapping topics and ideas is a good way to jump start projects and tasks. Though good old pen and paper traditionally got the job done, digital applications like MindNode for Mac ($19.99) and iOS ($9.99) devices offer flexibility and features that save time and trees.

While I have personally adapted to Windows 8 and 8.1, it is a disaster for Microsoft.  I’m so pleased to read this article by one of my favorite tech authors, Paul Thurrott.  From his blog at WinSupersite.com…

At the BUILD developer conference in April 2014, Microsoft will discuss its vision for the future of Windows, including a year-off release codenamed “Threshold” that will most likely be called Windows 9. Here’s what I know about the next major release of Windows.

Interesting opinion by Dan Frakes at Macworld.com…

As the lucky guy who got to review the 2013 Mac Pro, I’ve spent quite a bit of time with it over the past week. You can read that review for my formal evaluation of Apple’s new flagship workstation, but one thing that struck me while testing the Mac Pro is that in addition to radically changing Apple’s professional desktop line, it also illustrates the changing face of “power-user” computing for Mac users.

External drives — either USB flash drives or external hard drives — should be easy to use. In some cases, you may connect your drive to a Windows PC or another device with a USB port and find that it’s not recognized. This problem can be caused by partition issues on your external drive, using the wrong file system, dead USB ports, driver issues in Windows, or other problems. In a worst case scenario, the drive itself may simply be dead.

Dropbox is a great service, no doubt about that. It’s the original cloud syncing and backup tool, that will make all of your data available anywhere, while keeping it safe. But what if you’re worried about your privacy while online? What can you do to ensure that your data is backed up, yet your privacy remains intact? Simple — host your own alternative to Dropbox.

This article continues the walkthrough for building a private cloud by walking you through the construction of a logical network. After doing so, we will also be creating a new IP address pool that will service the logical network.
